The History of Prodigy Discovery Playschool, Inc.

Prodigy Discovery Playschool, Inc (PDP) started off as a brainchild of Mrs. Stacy Monungolh. Growing up in the world of education, it was natural for her to develop a love for learning and a love for children. She developed these loves further as she pursued her own de- grees in education, then eventually taught professionally both in the United States and Philip- pines. One thing she noticed while teaching in the Philippines was that because of the academic drive for success, children at a young age were being taught and pushed at academic levels in which their body skills and abilities had not yet developed. Thus, as a result, only those chil- dren above average succeeded and all others became frustrated, discouraged, and developed a distaste for learning.

With this observation, Mrs. Monungolh opened Little Fingers Playschool for three and four year olds in 2004. It was her motivation to develop a program that would keep with the academic expectations in the Philippine education system, and yet present the academics in such a way that were developmentally appropriate for the young child. Thus, paving the way for an excited attitude toward learning, regardless of the child’s mental and physical ability.

What was thought to remain a small playgroup setup has now developed into Prodigy Discovery Playschool, Inc. As word circulated the town and people began to understand and value its program, the demand grew. Thus, in year 2006, Little Fingers Playschool changed its name to Prodigy Discovery Playschool, Inc as it registered with SEC and the Department of Education as a non-stock, non-profit, private school. Prodigy Discovery Playschool’s growth has almost doubled every year, until now it has a steady population of about 200 students, using the available facilities on hand.

Every year parent have been asking for Prodigy Discovery Playschool to start and open the Elementary Department. Seeing the need for continuation regarding the style and method of education, it was decided that such would open as School Year 2010-2011. First to Third Grades were opened correspondingly, allowing to add successive grades every year thereafter until such that the Elementary Grades would be completed.
